Mapp gas is a great fuel to use when getting started with your fist lampwork set up. It is used in conjunction with a hot head torch and burns very cleanly. Readily available at most plumbing supply shops it will cost between £11 to £13 per canister. It last for only a few hours which means that working with Mapp over a prolonged period of time can work out an expensive fuel option.

If you find that lampworking is for you the next step is move on to a bulk fuel arrangement. After the initial set up costs for hosing, torch connector, flashback arrestor and propane regulator working with a larger tank of propane is much more cost effective. Although propane burns at a slightly lower temperature than Mapp it is an effective alternative fuel for working with soft glass.
