That's how broken beads make good cabochons after the bead release is cleaned away.

Just took this to show broken bead made into cabochon. Sorry the quality of the picture is poor, took it on the kitchen floor without using my tripod. It's about 1 inch in diameter.

I also found that cutting the corners off the glass gave a better round.

I make these cabs for a living and there is no need to cut the corners.  As said before glass want to suck up and pull its edges in so rounds are the most easest shape to get.

you need at least two layers to get nice edges.  If you just have one layer then you normally get a haze around the edges where the glass has picked up the bat wash or fibre paper on the kiln shelf.

I fuse to 860 to achieve full rounds.
