Thanks so much for all of your replies re "what to cover a worktop in" in the end I found a piece of brushed steel sheet from IKEA for £20 that seems to be doing the trick so far.
Today was day one in my studio and I have to say that I'm hooked!!!!! Either that or just addicted to the fumes (not convinced my extraction is good enough) may take a canary in there with me tomorrow! I will get round to posting some pics but haven't sussed this yet?
My real question is this - I have done a one day lesson and had a go with all kinds of shiny stuff that turned silver when you oxidised it - Is that right? I have a bundle of glass and various stringers to practice on but have no idea just by looking if its silvery stuff. Sure this is making me sound very lazy - but I blame the fumes..... any pointers?

Hi - Thanks for replying so quickly. Im on a minor burner and cant remember if it was up or down - think I reduced the Oxy?? Will my label on the glass tell me if its Triton or a double helix? I also love the opaque blue pink white smokie glass (i know flaky!!) do you know what that is, looks a bit pearlised?

You can always try reducing the end of the rod a little to see if it turns silvery  ;)

If it is glass that came in a starter pack it will either be labelled if it is a single rod of Double Helix, or if you bought it you'll know by the price - it's upwards of £20 a pack.  Lots of other colours do 'strange' things though.  Have fun, a lot of people on here (not me) can name a glass from a description so ask away if you have any mysteries to solve.
