I dont use much frit at the moment. but ive been trying the val cox or was it glass diversions :-\ method of dipping a clear rod in frit and applying it to the mandrel. ive tried a few frits so far with no luck
i have the sample tray off beady sam and i love the colours. but using it this way (on clear rod) doesnt seem to work. the colours are....well not colours really. they are muddy dark horrible mess.
Yet when i apply to a base bead of say white. its ok  :o
Im using vetro clear for this.
why are the colours not coming out when i use on a clear?

you could try adding silverleaf ( burnish flame off) before adding the frit and remember a little goes along way with frit .......and some colours do not like some glass ........but the others will know more ....and i think beady sam and jolenes websites have tut on how to use and im sure there is loads of stuff on here if you do a search

Not sure why the colours  arent' coming out, are they transparent reds and yellows that need striking?

As to the base the answer is yes! You can use any colour that will compliment the frit the best, I know a lot of people like ivory, but I prefer white, I've even put frit over periwinkle blue as it had a lot of pink and complimented the blue well. I put some on a marver and roll the hot bead into it myself if it's an opaque background.

Are they blends? Dipping the clear rod in frit can mix them too much. Oh, and try laying a tiny barrel of white first, it makes the colours show up more.

yes mary they are blends
what do u mean by" Dipping the clear rod in frit can mix them too much" ?
am i using too much frit?

I just mean that if you are dipping then melting and mixing before applying to the mandrel, you can mix the colours together (that's where I went wrong) and make them muddy, instead of separate colours. I worked it too much and had them too blended. Does that make sense? I'm not sure if it even makes sense to me, lol!
