Is there any reason why big beads can't be made with a Hothead?  I'm thinking upwards of 20mm.  I don't mind the time taken, but is there any other reason?

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi Morna, there is no reason why you can't go bigger than 20mm.....it's just a question of keeping the bead hot. I think I ended up on the larger side of 50mm at some point, and I know others have as well. Have a look at Sarah Hornik's beads - she does everything on a hothead, and definitely goes large!

I can't see a problem, I made some 30mm ones with a hot head, but does take a while to melt anything that big.

You just need patience and strong arms!!!

I take it that you will anneal as you go - I wouldn't want to risk a big bead to vermiculite or a blanket!

I've certainly made tubes over 40mm on a hothead, and put them into vermiculite to cool with no problem. You develop a waving in the flame technique to keep them warm while you work. :)
